Fossil Sharks Teeth : General Information

Fossil Sharks first show in the fossil record during the Silurian Epoch, approx 400 Million Years ago. As most of the shark is made of soft tissue/cartilage, hard Fossil Sharks Teeth are the only part of the shark to be found fossilised.

The Worlds Largest Fossil Shark is Megalodon. Museum quality Carcharodon Megalodon sharks teeth are rare. Fossil Carcharodon Megalodon sharks teeth usually dates from prehistory approx 16 to 1.5 millions years ago.

Otodus obliquus fossil sharks teeth are most common. Otodus was a large prehistoric mackerel shark. Otodus lived during the Paleocence and Eocene epochs approx 60 to 45 million years ago. Fossil Sharks teeth from this shark are medium to large with smooth cutting edges. Some Otodus Fossil Sharks Teeth show serrations along the tooth edge.
