Fossils Jewellery: General Information
The first pieces of jewellery were made from natural materials, such as amber, fossil bone, Fossil animal teeth, shell, wood, and carved stone. Jewellery was often made for people of high importance to show their status.
Although during earlier times jewellery was created for practical uses such as wealth, in recent times it has been used almost exclusively for decoration.
The harder parts of pre-historic animals are the most usual part to survive as fossils. Usually hard shells, teeth or bones make the best fosil jewellery. Fossil Amber is prized for its plant and insect inclusions and makes fine jewellery.
Most fossil jewellery come from the Quaternary, Tertiary, Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic, Geological Time Periods.
